Engineered hardwood flooring

Engineered hardwood flooring is a type of flooring made from multiple layers of wood that are bonded together to create a stable and durable product. The top layer, or wear layer, is made of real hardwood, which gives it the natural beauty and look of traditional solid hardwood flooring. Beneath this layer, there are several layers of plywood or high-density fiberboard (HDF) that provide strength and stability.
One of the key advantages of engineered hardwood is its ability to withstand changes in humidity and temperature better than solid wood. This makes it suitable for various environments, including basements and over-radiant heating systems. Engineered hardwood is also easier to install, often featuring a click-lock design that allows for floating installations without glue or nails.

In terms of aesthetics, engineered hardwood comes in a wide range of species, colors, and finishes, allowing homeowners to achieve the desired look for their spaces. It's a versatile option that combines the warmth and elegance of wood with enhanced durability and moisture resistance.

Solid hardwood

Solid hardwood floors are made from a single piece of natural wood, typically cut from trees like oak, maple, cherry, or hickory. This type of flooring is known for its durability, longevity, and timeless beauty. Each plank is usually around ¾ inch thick and can be sanded and refinished multiple times over its lifespan, allowing it to maintain its appearance even after years of use.
One of the standout features of solid hardwood is its ability to bring warmth and character to space, with unique grain patterns and color variations inherent in natural wood. It’s an excellent choice for creating a classic or rustic aesthetic in homes.

However, solid hardwood is more susceptible to changes in humidity and temperature compared to engineered hardwood. This means it may expand or contract slightly with fluctuations in moisture levels, making it less suitable for areas like basements or bathrooms without proper climate control.

Installation typically requires nailing or stapling down the planks to a wooden subfloor, which can be more labor-intensive than some other flooring options. Overall, solid hardwood floors are a beautiful investment that adds value and elegance to any home.

Rigid core flooring

Rigid core flooring is a type of resilient flooring that combines the durability of luxury vinyl with a solid core construction, making it an excellent choice for both residential and commercial spaces. The core is typically made from a dense, high-quality material like polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or a composite material, which provides stability and support while also being resistant to moisture, dents, and scratches.
One of the standout features of rigid core flooring is its ability to mimic the look of natural materials like wood or stone while offering enhanced practicality. It often comes with a realistic photographic layer beneath a protective wear layer, resulting in beautiful designs that are hard to distinguish from real hardwood or tile.

Rigid core flooring is designed for easy installation, often featuring a click-lock system that allows it to be installed as a floating floor without glue or nails. This makes it suitable for DIY projects. Plus, it's comfortable underfoot and can be installed over most existing floors without the need for additional underlayment.

Another benefit is its resistance to moisture, which makes it ideal for areas prone to spills or humidity, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and basements. Overall, rigid core flooring combines style, durability, and ease of maintenance, making it a popular choice for modern homes.
